Throughout the year, our Editors may issue a Call for Papers for a special collection of articles for a themed issue or themed section of the journal. Below you’ll find links to the current Call for Papers for Value in Health.
Call for Papers:
Digital Health Technologies: Examining Value, Regulation, and Equity
Value in Health invites submissions for a thematic issue dedicated to exploring the nuanced landscape of health preference research and value assessment frameworks in the realm of digital health technologies. This special collection of papers aims to dissect the complex interplay between technological innovation, health economics, and policy making in the context of rapidly evolving digital health applications.
The Editors are looking for papers that shed light on the evolving paradigms in digital health valuation and offer insights that shape the future of healthcare technology assessment and policy.
Authors should submit manuscripts through the journal's online submission system at https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/valueinhealth before September 1, 2024. Also, be sure to indicate in your cover letter that the paper is to be considered as part of the Digital Health Technologies theme.
The Health Economics of Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias
Alzheimer's disease and related dementias has become a major public health issue in aging societies. New treatments arriving to the market hold great potential for improving health outcomes of patients with ADRD but require new treatment pathways that can increase costs. Most healthcare systems heavily rely on other services such as social care and input from informal caregivers. The impact of ADRD on caregivers’ quality of life, productivity, and living arrangements, requires new scientific evidence.
Articles in this theme section will focus on these outstanding questions, creating a body of work aimed at providing new empirical evidence to guide decision making. The Editors are primarily interested in empirical articles, cost-effectiveness/budget impact models, and systematic literature reviews. Studies focusing on the prodromal stage of ADRD (ie, mild cognitive impairment) also will be considered.
Authors should submit manuscripts through the journal's online submission system at https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/valueinhealth before May 1, 2024. Also, be sure to indicate in your cover letter that the paper is to be considered as part of the Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias theme.
Rare Diseases: Economic Evaluation and Policy Considerations
Rare diseases are targets of an increasing fraction of new products. They have presented challenges for reimbursement approvals due to high pricing, limited evidence, and seemingly unattractive economic value. Should they be treated differently—and, if so, how? In this special themed section of Value in Health, the Editors seek broad-ranging papers addressing these issues.
Potential topics for this special issue include, but are not limited to: (a) rarity, severity, unmet need, value, and equity; (b) evidence in rare diseases: small and heterogeneous populations, uncertainty; (c) supplemental pricing and reimbursement
processes for health technologies to diagnose and treat rare diseases; and (d) policies to guide and incentivize research in rare diseases.
Authors should submit manuscripts through the journal's online submission system at https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/valueinhealth before March 1, 2024. Also, be
sure to indicate in your cover letter that the paper is to be considered as part of the Rare Diseases theme.
Health Economics and Outcomes Research of Mental Health
The global burden of mental health conditions is substantial, impacting the quality and length of life of billions of people around the globe. High-quality real-world data and economic evaluations of interventions to prevent, diagnose, and treat mental health conditions and increase mental well-being are critical to support appropriate resource allocation decisions and national and global policy development.
This themed section will explore factors that will potentially disrupt the field of mental health, including the use of electronic health records and real-world data to inform economic evaluations and cost-effectiveness analyses, the use of
artificial intelligence to prevent and diagnose mental health conditions, the availability of digital therapeutics for treatment, the increasing interest in mindfulness and meditation as potentially effective and cost-effective interventions,
and more.
Authors should submit manuscripts through the journal's online submission system at https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/valueinhealth before April 1, 2024. Also, be sure
to indicate in your cover letter that the paper is to be considered as part of the Mental Health theme.
Systematic Literature Reviews Related to Healthcare Treatments and Policies
Systematic literature reviews are an essential component for obtaining data inputs or assessing the impact of health technologies on clinical, economic, or health-related quality of life. Recognizing the inherent usefulness of these types of studies, the Editors of Value in Health are issuing an open Call for Papers for systematic literature reviews on a wide array of topics that seek to inform healthcare decision making.
Submissions received before March 1, 2024 will have the best chance of being published in Value in Health in 2024. Final decisions regarding ultimate acceptance rest solely with the Editors.
Authors should submit manuscripts through the journal’s web-based tracking system and be sure to classify their submissions as Systematic Literature Reviews.
